Mineral Make-Up is a safe and popular alternative to liquid or creme products, which contain an alarming number of toxic chemicals. Of course, reading the ingredient label is still necessary and even in mineral make-up, talc, carmine, bismuth oxychloride and parabens should be avoided. Micronized particles of Zinc and Titanium Dioxide are also not recommended, as this extremely small particle size may potentially lead to entrance into and accumulation in the body. Choosing a vegan product without fillers should prevent allergic reactions, the #1 complaint of users.

The #2 complaint is directly related to application. Cakey appearance, accumulation of the powder in wrinkles and fine lines, poor coverage…
Here are some helpful hints, which should eliminate these pesky problems and ensure that you, too, achieve that flawless complexion and healthy glow.

1. Never apply mineral make-up to freshly moisturized skin. Doing so will lead to an uneven distribution of the powder and a cakey appearance. Let your moisturizer absorb completely prior to application.

2. Mineral Make-Up, especially quality brands high in mica or iron oxides and without fillers, provide superior coverage with very little product. Do not use the product as you would a regular face powder. Dip your brush into the powder and tap off any excess.

3. Mineral foundation should be applied with a natural kabuki brush in a swirling motion. Because the pigment needs to “stick”, it is important that you work the product into the skin, rather than lightly applying it to the surface only (it will simply fall off, if you do this).

4. A wonderful advantage of mineral make-up is that you can mix foundations to achieve your desired skin color.

5. If you find that powder is accumulating in fine lines and wrinkles try to a) use less product, or b) mix a small amount of your favorite natural moisturizer with a pinch of the mineral pigment and then apply like liquid foundation. DO NOT store moisturizer mixed with mineral powder, as bacterial growth may occur.

6. If you are trying to cover blemishes, first apply foundation as described in 3. above. Rather than adding layers to conceal problems, use a small foundation brush for spot coverage only. This method works fabulously and ensures a naturally flawless look.

7. Use a small foundation brush to conceal under-eye circles and discolorations. Apply the mineral make-up only where extra coverage is needed, not to the general eye area. This eliminates accumulation of powder in fine lines around the eyes. It is also possible to blend mineral foundation with an application sponge, if needed.

Looking forward to trying out these amazing products! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the giveaway!

Also, great tip on not applying foundation right after moisturizing! Good to know!!

    Thanks!

I’ve got questions related to foundation application.
What does a small foundation application brush look like? I’ve still got problems covering blemishes. And I’ve still got a ’sheen’ after application that does not look natural. Is that too much foundation? I don’t feel like I’m using hardly any at all. Thanks.

I love the minerals powder! I have found two things: by having more than one shade, I can mix and match according to what I want! I can put different shades in different places and I can also mix two shades to get a third!
Second, the tip about adding minerals to a good moisturizer really works and the result is something beautiful!

I love the idea of using minerals for makeup, although it seems daunting to learn the application. What makes the kabuki brush different from other makeup brushes?

Also, I don’t understand why it would work to mix the minerals with moisturizer if it doesn’t work to apply the minerals before one’s skin has absorbed the moisturizer. Maybe it will make more sense after I try the products.

Mineral make up is the perfect ethical and beauty alternative I have been searching for! I am so happy to be prepared with these for when my daughter enters in to this age.
    I love Organics!
    Thank you!

    HI
I read the acrticle describing tips for applying mineral makeup and it truly helped! I have been wearing mineral makeup for a few years now but I was begining to become frustrated with it. Changing the way I was applying was just what I needed! I am now getting better application, skintone appearance and longer lasting coverage!
    Thanks for the tips
    Tara

Thanks to Beth Ann for pointing out the ethical value of using mineral makeup. I, too, am excited to share these products with my daughter.
As a side note, I have found that since I began using mineral makeup, my skin is clearer (fewer breakouts).
    Thanks!
    Dana

This was a very informative post. My main concern with trying mineral makeup is that it will look too powdery and matte on my dry skin. I like to have a more dewy look provided by liquid foundation. Is this possible to achieve with mineral makeup?

Feel free to use your hands to spread some of the cakey parts when applying the foundation.

Mineral makeup works great not only when mixed with moisturizer, but also mixed with lip balm.

Oh boy, I hope I win! I was an early adopter of mineral makeup and haven’t ever looked back. My tip:
You know you have the right shade if you can apply it without a mirror! Try it out sometime.

Thanks Jasco for the opportunity to WIN!

Have never tried mineral makeup before. It would be great if my first experience is with the best! I hope I win, but if I don’t I plan to buy some!

I’ve been using mineral powders for over 30 years and Jasco is by far superior to any out there and believe me there are many. Coverage is perfect and your face is flawless. Thanks for a great project.

I look forward to trying your products!! I am slowly making the switch to non-toxic everything!

I love the fact that you can mix mineral make-up foundations to achieve your desired skin color. That’s the problem with liquid foundation – no mixing to match your ever changing skin color (i.e. darker in the summer, lighter in the winter).

I would like to try mineral makeup because I’ve been reading about all of the bad stuff in the makeup I buy in the store. I have stopped using mine but would like to try something that will improve my skin’s appearance.

Organic is not just to eat. I Love the light feeling of heathy beauty on my face!
my tip: Is to use the blush on cheeks, eye crease, and lips…
Its a natural way to beauty and easy on the go…..

Thanks for great alternatives to the incredibly yucky products on the market. I’ve always felt bad using chemicals and toxins on my skin knowing that they were just getting absorbed right into my body. But what was a girl to do? Now we have options. Awesome!

I also added this great giveaway to our “Free Stuff” page at http://www.ForMyKidsOnline.com/free_stuff.htm

I have mixed feelings about that because it lessens my chances of winning. ;-) But I think that it’s incredibly important that everyone knows that there are great non-toxic choices.

Thanks for the tip of mixing mineral makeup with moisturizer. I also like the mention of using a kabuki brush, I was using a foundation brush recommended , but once I received my kabuki, it has made a world of difference, and swirling is a must. My question is with the blush, still use a kabuki brush or not?

So happy I discovered Jasco products. Your products have made a huge difference in my skin. I have learned a great deal about skin care products as well. Looking forward to trying mineral makeup.
